Shark Snorkeling

Snorkel with nurse sharks resting on the sandy bottom — gentle giants you can observe up close in crystal-clear water.

The reefs around Bodufolhudhoo are home to tawny nurse sharks — docile, bottom-dwelling sharks that rest on the sandy seabed during the day, often tucked under coral overhangs or gathered in small groups on open sand patches.

Nurse sharks are one of the most approachable shark species in the ocean. They can grow up to 3 meters long, but they're calm and completely harmless to humans — their distinctive barbels (whisker-like sensors near the mouth) and rounded fins make them easy to identify. Unlike most sharks, nurse sharks are curious and will come right up to the surface, giving you an incredible opportunity to swim alongside them in the open water.

Your guide knows the spots where nurse sharks gather and how to bring them in close. It's common to have several swimming around you at once — an experience that's thrilling and safe in equal measure. On a good day, you might also spot whitetip reef sharks tucked under overhangs or blacktip reef sharks patrolling the channel mouths nearby.

Between shark spots, you'll snorkel over pristine reef — the same areas that attract sharks are rich with marine life of all kinds. Eagle rays, giant trevally, and Napoleon wrasse are common sightings along the way.

No experience needed. Our guides stay with the group throughout and carry safety equipment. We provide all snorkeling gear.
